1. Costal Shipping Bill, 2025 passed in Parliament
On August 7, the Coastal Shipping Bill, 2025 passed in Parliament.

Central port, shipping and waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal introduced the Coastal Shipping Bill, 2025 in the Rajya Sabha.
- The Rajya Sabha passed it through sound vote i.e. voice vote.
- The bill was passed on 3 April 2025 in the Lok Sabha.
- Now it will be sent for the approval of the President, then it will become a law.
- The purpose of this bill is to facilitate freight and promote coastal trade on the 11,098 km long Indian coastline.
- This Merchant Shipping Act canceled section XIV of 1958.
- Also provides a modern, dedicated legal framework for coastal shipping.
2. India became ‘Guest of Honor’ country in 38th Bogota International Book Fair 2026
India was selected as the ‘Guest of Honor’ country in the 38th Bogota International Book Fair (Filbo) 2026.

India first performed Indian books through the National Book Trust (NBT) in Filbo in 2025 this year i.e. in 2025.
- The Filbo 2026 will be held from 21 April to May 4, 2026 in Columbia’s Korferias, Bogota, the capital of Columbia.
- This is an important step towards strengthening cultural and literary relations between India and Colombia.
- The Bogota International Book Fair is organized from 1988 by the Colombian Book Chamber and Corferius.
- It is one of the most important cultural events in the Spanish -speaking world.

1. All India Law Entrance Test started the application process for 2026
7 August started the application process for All India Law Entrance Test i.e. AILET 2026. This entrance examination conducted by National Law University i.e. NLU, Delhi, admission in BA LLB (Hons), LLM and PHD programs of 2026-27.
Students can register by visiting the official website nationallawuniversitydelhi.in. The last date to apply is 10 November.
At the same time, the AILET 2026 exam will be held on December 14, 2025. Candidates passed from 45% number in 12th can apply for admission to undergraduate courses.
2. NCERT set up a panel to review the map dispute
NCERT formed a panel amidst controversies over the book of class 8th. This panel will review the dispute over showing parts of Rajasthan under the Maratha Empire in the map given in the book.

In fact, NCERT’s class 8th social science book, ‘Exploreing Society: India and Beyond’ shows Jaisalmer part of the Maratha Empire. On which the Jaisalmer community raised strong objection.
The Jaisalmer community alleges that it is historically misleading, factually baseless and objectionable. Chaitanya Raj Singh of the erstwhile Jaisalmer royal family has registered his protest by tweeting on the social media platform X.
