The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will have 10th and 12th board examinations from February 17. This is the first time the board examinations of class 10th will be held twice in an academic session. CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj said, the first exam will be from 17 February to March 6, 2026. While the second time the exam will be held from 15 May to 1 June. He said that the class 12th examination will be held from 17 February to April 9, 2026.
3 important things of new exam pattern
- In the second examination, the optional exam, students will be allowed to improve their performance in any 3 subjects from Science, Mathematics, Social Science and Language.
- Students of Winter Bound Schools (Schools in winter) will be allowed to appear in any of the two examinations.
- If a student has not appeared in 3 or more subjects in the first examination, he will not be allowed to appear in the second examination.

Question 1: From when the rule of exams twice will apply. answer: This rule will be applicable from 2025-26 sessions. This means that board exams will be held 2 times in the year 2026.
Question 2: Will it be necessary to give exams both times. answer: No. Students will have 3 options.
- Take the exam once a year.
- Both appear in the exams.
- If you are not able to perform well in a subject, give an examination of that subject again in the second examination.
Question 3: If the exams are given 2 times, then how will the result be decided. answer: The results of those students who will join the board exam both times will be considered as the final, which would be better. That is, if the numbers will decrease on the exam for the second time, then only the number of the first exam will be considered final.
Question 4: Will you get a chance to give supplementary exam after two exams. answer: No. The supplementary exam for the 10th will now be abolished.
Question 5: Will there be different exam centers for board examinations both times. answer: No. The exam center for both examinations will remain the same.
Question 6: Will registration be separated for both examinations? Fees will also be charged 2 times. answer: No. Registration will have to be done only once for both examinations. However, the fee will be charged simultaneously for choosing an option to take the exam twice.
Question 7: Will practical exams be 2 times. answer: No. Practical and internal exams will be there only once. These will be held in December-January as before.
Was ready in August 2024 Draft The draft of conducting 2 times a year was prepared in August 2024. During this, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had said that just as students have the option to give joint entrance exam (JEE) for admission in engineering colleges two years a year, similarly students will be able to give the exams of 10th twice a year.
The Ministry of Education had discussed the board exam 2 times a year with CBSE Board Secretary and other academics on 19 February last week. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan discussed with CBSE, NCERT, KVS, NVS and many school officials to conduct exams 2 times a year after which this decision has been taken.
