Leading e-commerce company Amazon India is once again going to lay off its employees. According to reports, this time the retrenchment will be done in the Human Resource i.e. HR department.

The report of Fortune Media has claimed that in this round of layoffs, the maximum cut in the HR department can be up to 15 percent. At present Amazon has not given any comment on this.

Amazon’s human resources department is called People Experience Technology (PTX). More than 10,000 employees work in this team worldwide. Apart from this, staff in other teams can also be reduced.

Layoffs are happening to invest in AI

The report claims that the company is trying to reduce the corporate workforce to invest in AI. Amazon can spend more than 100 billion dollars i.e. about Rs 8,900 billion by next year to build AI data centers and cloud servers.

On this, the company says that this investment is being made to make products for the customers and for the needs of the company.

There have been several layoffs in the last few months

Amazon has already done layoffs several times in the last few months and is now preparing for a new layoff. However, according to a report, the company is also planning to appoint 2.50 lakh new employees. This will include full time, part time and seasonal jobs.

Amazon does such recruitment every year, but amidst the layoffs, there were speculations that seasonal recruitment would not be done this year.

CEO said- will increase the use of AI

Recently, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has said that the company will increase the use of AI in the coming years. This will reduce the number of employees in the company. Jessie had said, ‘The company will replace some positions of the corporate workforce with AI in the coming time.’ In such a situation, Amazon employees fear losing their jobs.
