On August 1, the Supreme Court directed that now all teachers associated with Teaching Service will be required to pass Teachers Eligibility Test i.e. TET to stay in their service or promote.
The decision was given by a bench of Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice Agstein George Christ. However, the bench has given relief to teachers who have only 5 years left in the service.
Compulsory for those with service more than 5 years
According to the directive of the bench, teachers who have more than 5 years of time in their service are required to do TET to stay in the service. Failure to do so will either have to resign or take a compulsory retirement.
