These are the songs through which Sheela teaches the first and second class children. She only teaches children to count, connect, story and acting, names and directions of days, names and directions. His songs and poems are famous all over the area, which children also sing in homes.
Sheela Patel, who teaches in Patharia, Government Primary School, Damoh district of MP, has been selected for the National Teachers Award 2025. President Draupadi Murmu will honor him on 5 September i.e. Teachers’ Day. This honor is being given to Sheela for her unique style of teaching and increasing the admission of children in school.
Sheela takes children with her scooty
Sheela says, “When I came to school in the beginning, there were only 6-8 children here. Where we have a school, most of the children are from the laborers. I felt that it is necessary to bring the children to the school first.
The next morning I took information about the children who were not coming to school, and reached their home with their scooty. At first the children and their parents were surprised, then agreed to go to school.
But it was not easy to bring children to school daily. I had to go to his house every day for several days. After some time, parents themselves started sending children to school daily. He would ask the children to go to school soon or else Madam will have to come to take you. “
When a child does not come to school, teacher Sheela Patel arrives at her home scooty to pick her up.
She says, ‘When a teacher goes by car in the homes of the poor, laborers, they like it. They think that at least someone is thinking about our child. Someone is worried about our child.
The people of the village made ‘Mohalla Leader’
In her campaign to connect the children with studies, Sheela saw some places in the village where parents used to sit and play children. In such places, some walls were painted for the learning of children. Somewhere the alphabet of Hindi was written, somewhere English alphabets were written. Somewhere the count was written and somewhere he got the tables written.
Made a mohalla leader who can be an alumnus of the school, a member of the community or a child of a child. Gave him a chalk box and a duster. He told them that whenever you get time, read the children on the blackboard built in the locality.
Some older children and other people of the village have been made Mohalla leaders who teach children when they get time.
Sheela says, “By doing this, the children studying in the school are not only benefited, but also the children of the village who do not go to school.”
Unique ‘welcome routine’ made in school
Children are welcomed in a fun way every day in school. A flax has been created for this. It has many types of icons, such as Namaste, Shake-Hand, Hug, Panch. Teachers welcome the child in the same manner. For example, if the child touched the icon of Namaste, the class teacher will welcome the child to the class. This makes children happy.

Many such poems of Sheela are now subject to discussion in the entire village. The effect of this is that every year the enrollment of children is increasing in school. She says, “Now the school situation is so good that children are getting admission here after coming out of private schools.”
Actually, there are 10-12 private schools in Damoh near the village. Earlier most people used to get their children admitted in private schools. Admission in government schools used to be very less. Now statistics show that since 2022, children are continuously decreasing in private schools and growing in government primary school.
In 2025-26 sessions, 4 children from private schools have come to their school. Two admissions are in the second class, while each admission is in the third and fourth class. At the same time, in 2024, 6 children came here from private school.
Teacher Sheela Patel teaches all children from first to fifth through audio-visual medium. Due to this, children’s interest in studies has increased. Now children are getting admission in their government school by cutting their names from private schools.
Bagless day is celebrated in school
Sheila says, ‘I believe that government schools should also be colorful and beautiful like private schools. Therefore, we have painted the classrooms of the school according to the choice and interests of the children. Somewhere, the names of fruits were written on the window and the poems. We made arrangements like private schools in our school itself.
They also celebrate the birthday of children in school. All the children’s birthdays come every month, the day of the childhood is celebrated simultaneously. Teachers in school get cakes cut and also bring gifts for children. Bagless Day is celebrated in school. Seeing all these things, people are attracted to school. When the interest of the people increased, the nomination of the school also increased.
Sheela selected out of 165 teachers of MP
This year, 165 people from Madhya Pradesh applied for the President’s Award. 7 applications were made from Damoh district itself. Out of a total of 165 people, 6 people were selected, then their screening test was done. These teachers solved a model paper with 21 questions. Of these, 2 teachers have been selected for the President’s Award, of which Sheela Patel is one.
